Strengths-based retreats + team development
Understand what your team brings—and put it to work together.
I design and facilitate strengths-based retreats, offsites, workshops, and team-coaching engagements that help people recognize what they contribute, understand what they need from one another, and make more intentional choices about how they work together.
Each experience is shaped around your team’s context, culture, and the moment it is navigating.
When this work can help
A retreat can create valuable space when a team needs to step outside the demands of everyday work and attend to how it wants to move forward.
Strengths-based team development can be particularly useful when a team is:
Growing quickly or preparing for a new strategic chapter
Welcoming new members
Navigating organizational or leadership change
Experiencing friction or strained collaboration
Clarifying roles, expectations, or ways of working
Seeking greater trust and more productive dialogue
Trying to preserve what makes its culture special as it evolves
Ready to build upon what is working—not only address what is not
Why begin with strengths?
During growth and change, teams can become preoccupied with what is missing: a capability gap, a communication problem, or a person who needs to adapt. Addressing gaps matters, but when this becomes the primary lens, teams can lose sight of the capacities already present.
A strengths-based approach shifts the question from “What is wrong, and how do we correct it?” to “What do we have between us, and how can we put it to work?”
When people can see their own contributions and recognize the strengths of those around them, difference becomes easier to understand and use. Teams develop a shared language for combining their capacities, asking for support, and making deliberate choices about how they collaborate.
How we work together
Every engagement is tailored to the team and the outcomes it hopes to achieve. A typical process may include:
1. Align
We begin with the sponsor or team leader to understand the organizational context, the team’s current reality, and what would make the engagement meaningful.
2. Discover
Participants complete a strengths assessment or prepare through guided reflection. 1:1 virtual debriefs help translate the results into language that feels relevant and recognizable at the individual level.
3. Experience
The team comes together for a thoughtfully designed retreat, offsite, or workshop. Through reflection, dialogue, and practical activities, participants explore how their strengths shape communication, relationships, decisions, and performance.
4. Integrate
The team translates insight into shared commitments, working practices, or next steps. Team or individual coaching can extend the learning and support application after the facilitated experience.
Engagements may range from a focused workshop to a longer partnership combining assessment, facilitation, and coaching.
coaching style
Experiential, reflective, practical
My facilitation is grounded in how people actually learn. I combine strengths research with practical application and carefully chosen practices that help participants slow down, notice more, and remain present to themselves and one another.
I create enough structure to support purposeful work while leaving room for the intelligence, experience, and relationships already in the room. The goal is not simply to understand a strengths report, but to make insight visible in how people relate, decide, and act together.
frameworks
Choosing the right framework
Assessments are tools in service of the team’s purpose—not the purpose of the engagement itself.
Gallup CliftonStrengths® helps teams understand recurring patterns of talent and how those patterns influence execution, relationships, strategic thinking, and influence.
VIA Character Strengths offers a shared language for capacities of character that contribute to wellbeing, relationships, leadership, and culture.
I love and use both frameworks. Depending on your goals, we may use Gallup CliftonStrengths®, VIA Character Strengths, or a thoughtfully selected combination. Executive-team engagements may also incorporate the Leadership Circle Profile™ (360).

Scaling without losing what makes you special: #samsales consulting
As #samsales Consulting grew, its leadership team wanted to preserve the energetic, generous, highly relational, and playful culture that made the organization distinctive—while becoming more intentional about how they worked together.
Our engagement began with CliftonStrengths® assessments and individual debriefs, followed by a facilitated team retreat designed around the organization’s culture and stage of growth. The work created a shared language for understanding individual contributions, team dynamics, and the strengths they could build upon together.
The relationship later expanded into individual and group coaching for members of the executive team, supporting the continued application of their insights as the organization evolved.
What is your team navigating?
A complimentary conversation gives us an opportunity to explore your team’s context, what you hope to make possible, and whether a retreat, workshop, team-coaching engagement, or combination of approaches would best support the moment.
Facilitation and coaching are available in English and Spanish, virtually and in person.
